Train company c2c today honours one of its longest serving employees by naming a train after him.
Tony Amos, 68 and from Elm Park, Hornchurch, joined the railways at age 16 and, apart from a 3-year break in the mid-fifties, spent all his working life with c2c and its predecessors, before retiring in October 2001, having clocked up a total of 47 years' employment with the railway.
Tony started his career as an engine cleaner at Plaistow Steam Depot. After a 3 year break he returned to Plaistow, moving later to depots at Ripple Lane and finally East Ham.
Route Director Leila Frances said, Tony is one of the great but unsung heroes of the railways who laid the foundations for the modern c2c we have today - the best performing Train Company in the Southeast with punctuality of 94%.
He was starting his career long before I was even born, but everyone who knew him speaks highly of his professionalism - always well-dressed, reliable and conscientious. All of us at c2c wish him well in his well-deserved retirement.
Tony now concentrates on his main hobbies - his family, fishing and supporting West Ham Football club.
