National rail fares to increase on 5 March 2023

28 February 2023

As part of the Government’s national policy for ticket price changes, national rail fares will increase by 5.9% on 5 March 2023.

This rise will increase the cost of a peak time return from Southend Central to London Fenchurch Street to £22.60 from £21.40. A typical monthly season ticket from Basildon to London Fenchurch Street will increase from £308.40 to £326.50.

New fares will be added to our website on 5 March 2023. Customers will still be able to purchase tickets before this date at their current price even for a date of travel after 5 March 2023.

If you now only travel part of the week and work from home part of the week, you may find a flexible-season ticket offers you better value. Flexible season tickets were created following the reforms set out in the governments ‘Plan for Rail,’ to offer a better deal to commuters with new travel patterns.

You can find out more information on flexible season tickets using a c2c Smartcard on our website.

For more information about where your rail fare goes, please see the national rail website which details how fares are overwhelmingly used to run and improve the rail network.
