Local rail company Trenitalia c2c has announced that pay as you go with contactless ticketing continues to be hugely popular, with record numbers of taps being made by customers at its new contactless stations.
c2c has announced that pay as you go with contactless ticketing continues to grow month on month, with an average of 10k taps (in and out) now being made each day across the new contactless stations on the c2c route.
Since being launched in February as part of the Government’s Project Oval initiative, customers have been able travel across the entire c2c route, into and around London and the wider pay as you go area using a single contactless payment card or device, making c2c the only national rail operator with a fully contactless network.
Commenting, c2c’s Commercial and Interim Customer Director, Eleni Jordan, said: “It is great to see that so many of our customers have already made the switch to pay as you go with contactless ticketing, making it quicker and easier for them to access our services than ever before. Across our new contactless stations, we are now seeing approximately ten thousand taps made by our customers each day, the highest number recorded by any national rail operator.
“c2c continues to lead the way when it comes to researching and implementing enhanced ticketing and digital solutions, and this is an important area we will continue to explore and develop,” she added.
c2c is committed to providing all customers with access to a wide range of ticketing and payment options – including Smartcard, e-ticketing and traditional paper tickets – with early adoption rates of contactless extremely encouraging.
Pay as you go with contactless is available during both the peak and off-peak to all customers in possession of a valid contactless payment card or device (mobile phone or smart watch).
In addition to the c2c network, this ticketing and payment method can be used across London and the wider pay as you go with contactless area, with the best value adult fare calculated and charged for journeys made on the day and time of travel.
For most people, this fare is the same as a ticket bought on the day. Customers can also benefit from Monday to Sunday price capping when travelling into and within London.
