Monthly train tickets
A monthly train ticket is a practical choice if you’re travelling regularly but don’t want to commit to a full year. It offers consistent savings compared to buying daily or even weekly fares, while still giving you flexibility if your routine changes.
Across the c2c route between London and South Essex, it’s a straightforward way to keep your commute predictable and better value over time.
Many commuters find that monthly train tickets strike the right balance – long enough to unlock savings, but flexible enough to fit around real-life schedules.
And with a clear monthly train ticket price, it’s easier to plan your travel costs without surprises.
Monthly & custom-length season tickets
If you’re a Weekly season ticket holder – or if you usually buy a daily ticket – why not save some money and select our Monthly train ticket or custom-length options? Since you’re entitled to a season ticket for any period of between a month or a year, you can opt to cover school term dates or fixed-length work contracts – the choice is yours.
With c2c, you’re not limited to strict calendar months. Options like “Any 7 Days” or custom-length tickets give you more control over how your travel lines up with your routine, whether that’s a rolling work schedule or a fixed contract period.
Exactly how much is a monthly train ticket? The answer depends on your route and whether your journey includes London Underground zones. The easiest way to check accurate monthly train ticket prices is to use the c2c fare finder, which gives you a real-time view of costs based on your travel.

There are a few simple options to choose from, depending on how you prefer to travel.

- Search your journey – Enter your departure and arrival stations, then select your monthly ticket option.
- Choose your delivery method – Select either an e-ticket for your phone or the option to load it onto your Smartcard.
- Load your ticket – If using a Smartcard, follow the prompts to transfer your ticket, usually by tapping your card against your phone.
- Start travelling – Your ticket is ready to use, with everything stored digitally for easy access.
Buying at a station
- Use a ticket machine or ticket office – Select your route and monthly ticket at a pink c2c machine or with a member of staff.
- Choose your format – Load your ticket onto a Smartcard or receive a paper ticket.
- Set your start date – Pick when you want your ticket to begin and you’re ready to go.
Many passengers choose to buy monthly train tickets online and link them to the c2c Train Travel app. This makes it easy to manage your ticket in one place, check details, and renew when needed without starting from scratch.
If you prefer to plan ahead, you can also arrange train tickets in advance so your Smartcard is ready before your first day of travel. While advance train tickets are useful for occasional journeys, setting up your monthly ticket ahead of time means you can start your commute without any last-minute setup.
Popular tickets
For many passengers, certain routes come up time and again. Journeys such as Southend Central to London Fenchurch Street or Basildon to West Ham are popular choices, where a monthly ticket can offer noticeable savings compared to daily fares.
If you’re commuting most days, a monthly option often makes the most sense. For those travelling two or three days a week, Flexi Season Tickets can be worth considering as an alternative, depending on your routine.

I no longer need my Weekly or Monthly Season ticket; will I receive a refund?
If you stop travelling and no longer need your Season Ticket, you can hand it to the ticket office where you bought it. Any refund is calculated from the date the Season Ticket was handed in and will be the difference between the price you paid and the cost of a ticket or tickets for the period for which you have actually used the ticket. An administration charge of up to £10 may also be deducted from the refund amount. There must be at least seven days remaining on a Monthly Season Ticket to obtain a refund. If you have any queries please contact our Customer Relations Team.
