Darker nights can bring their own delights. Especially when the skies light up with the sparkle and crackle of fireworks. And if you think they're just for Bonfire Night think again! Southend is hosting a FREE seafront display every Saturday from 06 October to 17 November. Free Seafront Fireworks, Southend

Fireworks Night, Victoria Park

When: 7pm Sunday 4 November

Ticket info: Free

Organised by the council’s Arts, Parks and Events Team and produced by Walk the Plank, this year’s Guy Fawkes celebration will bring an exciting sci-fi vibe with a mix of both contemporary and classical tracks synchronised to a dizzying sequence of fireworks and special effects.

Nearest station: Hackney Wick (take the c2c to Stratford, then change to the overground for one stop).

The Big Beach Bang, Shoebury East Beach

When: Saturday 3 Nov from 17:45, Shoebury East Beach

Ticket info: £5 in advance or £6 on the night (per person). Children 5 and under are free.

Special features: A DJ and Fun Fair makes this event an entertaining evening with lots to see besides the spectacular fireworks display. All ticket proceeds go to local charities and whilst parking is free, it is limited, so make sure to arrive early.

Firework Spectacular, Basildon

When: Sunday 4 November from 18:00, Basildon Sports and Leisure Club.

Ticket info: £5 in advance or £7 on the night (per person). Children under 5 are free.

Special Features: This annual event returns once again with a sparkling display to light up Basildon. With all proceeds going to charity, a licensed bar and plenty of food outlets make this an outing for all the family. Designated event parking is free, but limited.

Guy Fawkes Night, Wanstead Flats

When: Sunday 4 November from 17:30, Wanstead Flats, Forest Gate.

Ticket info: Free

Special Features: Spectacular fireworks and an array of food and drink options will ensure you are dazzled at this annual event. Bring family and friends to this free display, but be sure to check travel options as there will be no parking in the area.

Lord Mayor's Firework Show, London riverside

When: November 10 from 17:15

Sad fireworks night is over? You can still catch exceptional fireworks displays even after November 5. The Lord Mayor's fireworks take place at the end of the annual Lord Mayor's show and marks the beginning of a new mayoral year. For the best views head to the riverside between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges, either on Victoria Embankment or on the South Bank.
