Westcliff is an elegant town just west of Southend. It’s also the home of Rossi’s Ice Cream, loved by locals and local celebrities like Jamie Oliver. Visit their Westcliff parlour on the seafront (it dates back to the 50s) to taste some for yourself. Westcliff’s beach If you’re after some entertainment Cliffs Pavilion theatre attracts all the big theatre productions from around the country and is an easy walk from the station – saving you the hassle of trying to park there.

Whether you’re off to the theatre, or just looking for a more peaceful side of Southend for a stroll, then Westcliff is the place to be. Our top tip is to stroll or cycle along the palm tree fringed sea front, stopping off at Rossi’s for an ice cream, or picking up some tasty fish and chips and flopping on a deck chair by the sea. Culture vultures will also love the Beecroft Art Gallery.

Places to eat and drink in Westcliff

Beside the legendary ice cream from Rossi’s, there are some really cracking places to get some grub. Find a corner of Italy on Shorefield road, just off the Esplanade where you can find not one, not two but three tip top Italian joints in a row. For modern style seafood in a very pretty beachfront setting head to the Oyster Creek Kitchen where on a sunny day you’ll feel more like you’re in the Caribbean. Toulouse down the beach has lovely french fare, and Oliver’s on the beach (part of the Jamie Oliver family) have people raving about their breakfasts. If you’re close to the Cliff’s Pavilion theatre then you must visit cafe Fiori, a cute coffee shop that doubles as a florist – being surrounded by greenery is the perfect respite during a day of exploring.
