What happens if I don’t have my ticket or Smartcard with me?

You must carry your valid Smartcard, mobile or paper ticket when travelling. If you do not have your ticket when requested – be it on a train or at a station – you may be charged a penalty fare. For Oyster or contactless bank cards, you must carry the validated card with you – it is important that you always tap your card or device in at the yellow payment validators prior to your journey.
