To mark World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September), local rail operator c2c Railway is pleased to welcome its new Safeguarding and Security Manager, Kamaldeep Wallis to the business.
Kamaldeep (Kam) isn’t just strong in her approach to safeguarding – she’s also a competitor in strongwoman competitions, a sport that demands significant resilience and determination. These same qualities are central to her work protecting vulnerable individuals across the railway network.
World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about mental health and the small steps we can all take to make a difference. At c2c, the safeguarding of our customers is our highest priority; from colleague training to identifying vulnerable individuals, the c2c team works hard to ensure every passenger feels safe and supported.
Kam Wallis, c2c Railway Safeguarding Manager, said:
“In this role, my priority is to ensure staff feel supported when dealing with safeguarding and security issues. I want to give them the confidence to engage with the community effectively, while providing the right tools and training to do so.
“Staff welfare and reducing assaults are paramount, and creating a safer railway environment is at the heart of c2c’s values. I’m excited to get stuck into my role here at c2c and I look forward to meeting people across the business while achieving many milestones together.”
Rob Mullen, c2c Railway Managing Director, said:
“At c2c, we take the wellbeing and safeguarding of our customers and colleagues very seriously – and today feels like the right day to highlight how delighted we are to welcome Kam to the team. Kam’s dedication to safeguarding has already shone through and I am looking forward to seeing how she develops and grows with us at c2c.”
Iain Palmer, c2c Railway Head of Revenue Protection and Security, said:
“Kam has already shown how much she cares about c2c, its passengers and colleagues. Her dedication to the role is impressive.
“Samaritans and Basildon Mind are two of our closest charity partners at c2c, and through Samaritans’ training programmes, many of our colleagues are now trained in how to help those that are at risk of suicide. If anybody feels they need somebody to talk to, please, call Samaritans or contact Mind.”
c2c continues to work closely with its charity partners to ensure the mental health and wellbeing of its passengers. The recent Kick4Kindness charity football tournament, organised by c2c and held at Southend United’s Roots Hall stadium was held in aid of Basildon Mind and Samaritans, raising over £7,000.
Demonstrating its commitment to the safeguarding and wellbeing of its customers and local communities, c2c recently became the first train operator to partner with Stamp Out Spiking – a national campaign dedicated to tackling the growing problem of drink spiking and supporting victims across the UK.
