After a successful partnership on two previous art trails (Hares About Town and Herd In The City), Havens Hospices are bringing a third extraordinary public art trail and cultural event throughout the city of Southend-on-Sea.

For over six weeks from July 2025, Southend-on-Sea will be brought to life by a huddle of beautiful painted penguins and baby penguins, each designed by a local artist or organisation.

We’re supporting the Waddle-on-Sea event by making the penguins as accessible as possible with a special discounted rail fare for those visiting the trail.

The c2c special Rover ticket will be an unlimited Off-Peak £6 flat fare (£2 for children under the age of 16), between all stations from Shoeburyness to Leigh-on-Sea. The ticket will be valid for one day and available to buy from ticket offices between 11 July and 3 September 2025.

The c2c penguin – location to be revealed – has been designed by local artist Claudia Rose Davis, whose moving story about her link with Havens Hospices is explained in this special video, which can be watched below.
