GBR Anglia is offering free travel to service personnel and veterans travelling to and from Services of Remembrance on c2c and Greater Anglia Services.

For the first time, eligibility has also been extended to one immediate bereaved family member of a person who died in service.

This important change will enable eligible relatives to travel free of charge when attending Remembrance events, recognising the enduring sacrifice made by service personnel and the impact of their loss on those closest to them.

Around 650 people are estimated to qualify under this extension, helping more bereaved families take part in commemorations and pay tribute to their loved ones.

Serving military personnel and veterans travelling to London to attend the Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, on Saturday 7 November and Sunday 8 November will receive free travel on c2c and Greater Anglia services.

For Remembrance events outside London, free return travel to local Remembrance Sunday services will be available on Sunday 8 November.

GBR Anglia brings together the leadership of c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia under a single, unified structure as we move towards Great British Railways.

GBR Anglia Chief Customer and Commercial Officer, Rob Mullen said:

“At GBR Anglia, we stand together in Remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and honour all those who have served and continue to serve in our Armed Forces.

“We are honoured to offer complimentary travel to veterans and serving military personnel attending Remembrance events this weekend, and we thank them for their extraordinary service.”

The offer covers one Standard Class return journey on all National Rail operators; however, it does not cover Transport for London services, including the Underground, Overground, Elizabeth Line, DLR, buses and trams.

Veterans can access the offer using a Veterans Railcard, Veterans ID card or other proof of veteran status, while serving personnel can travel in uniform or with a Ministry of Defence (MoD) identity card.

An eligible bereaved family member will receive a special complimentary ticket through an MoD-managed application process. These tickets are personalised and only valid for the named recipient. The recipient will be asked to carry photographic identification and may be required to verify their identity during travel.

Help with journey planning and live travel information will be available through National Rail and participating train operators.

Passengers requiring assistance can book support in advance through National Rail’s assisted travel services.

If a train is delayed or cancelled, the complimentary ticket is not tied to a specific service and can be used on alternative trains within the ticket’s validity period.

If you have already purchased rail tickets but you are eligible for free travel, it is advised to contact the ticket retailer to check whether a refund is available.

c2c customers are advised to check before they travel due to engineering works taking place between Barking and Fenchurch Street on the weekend of 7 and 8 November.

About GBR Anglia

GBR Anglia brings together c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia under one unified leadership team as part of the wider journey towards Great British Railways.

This new structure is part of wider plans to create Great British Railways (GBR), bringing track and train closer together to deliver a better, more joined-up railway for customers and communities in Anglia.

The structure is designed to support closer operational coordination across infrastructure, train services and customer delivery.

Existing ticketing and customer arrangements remain unchanged, and customers will continue to see the current company identities as the railway transitions towards GBR.

The Anglia route serves a fast-growing region, connecting commuters, leisure travellers, ports, power stations and more, as well as Stansted and Southend airports.
