Local rail operator c2c Railway – now part of GBR Anglia, which brings together the leadership of c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia under a single, unified structure – has confirmed the second phase of essential works to renew sections of both platforms at Limehouse station will begin in mid-August.

The second phase of works will run from Monday 17 August to Saturday 29 August when the London-bound platform (Platform 1) will remain closed throughout. Customers travelling from Essex to London during this period should plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.

c2c’s Asset & Property Director, Donna Thorpe, said:

“Phase 1 of the works at Limehouse station were completed in early July and we will continue to work with our partners at Aureos to fully replace the existing timber platform decking and the extension of platform 1 by approximately 28 metres. This will provide additional capacity and creating a safer and more comfortable waiting environment for customers.”

The existing timber platforms will be replaced with a modern Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) composite decking system, which will enhance the durability and resilience of the station infrastructure.

Donna added:

“We fully appreciate the inconvenience that these phased platform closures may cause some customers over the coming months, and we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding while these essential improvement works are carried out.

“We are working closely with our partners to minimise disruption wherever possible, and to ensure suitable alternative travel arrangements are available throughout the programme of works.”

During the second phase of works, customers using the London-bound Platform 1 at Limehouse Station are advised that there will be no station entrance or exit access for London bound services, and no interchange with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) for trains arriving from Essex.

Customers starting their journey from Limehouse towards London can either:

  • Take an Essex-bound train to West Ham and connect with c2c services, or
  • use TfL services to Tower Hill or to with c2c services at West Ham station.

Customers wishing to interchange with the DLR at Limehouse should change at West Ham for TfL services. Customers can also use Tower Gateway or Bank stations to connect with the DLR, but please note additional charges may apply if using these stations to start or complete journeys while platform 1 at Limehouse is closed.

Passengers requiring mobility assistance (MIP/VIP) for their journey are advised to contact c2c in advance of travel to ensure a member of staff is available to assist them if needed.  During the works, it may be necessary to travel one stop in the opposite direction to access train services due to the closure.

Anglia’s journey towards Great British Railways

Anglia’s integrated railway brings together the leadership of c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia under a single, unified structure.

This new structure is part of wider plans to create Great British Railways (GBR), bringing track and train closer together to deliver a better, more joined-up railway for customers and communities in Anglia.

The structure is designed to support closer operational coordination across infrastructure, train services and customer delivery.

Existing ticketing and customer arrangements remain unchanged, and customers will continue to see the current company identities as the railway transitions towards GBR.

The Anglia route serves a fast-growing region, connecting commuters, leisure travellers, ports, power stations and more, as well as Stansted and Southend airports.
