Southchurch Village gets its own station

Representatives from the Southend Rail Traveller's Association and , Southchurch Traders Association, along with the Prospective Parliamentary Candidates for the local constituency, are joining Group Station Manager Suzanne Linggood at Southend East station tomorrow (Thursday 21 April) to give the station a new name.

For some time it was felt by representatives of the local community that the name "Southend East" did not describe prominently enough the location of the station. A more geographically orientated name would make it easier for customers travelling to the area by rail to know at which station they should alight.

Following discussions with c2c, it was agreed that the station should be renamed

"c2c Rail Southend East for Southchurch Village".

Suzanne is very pleased to be able to meet the wishes of the local community.

"C2c has been in discussions for some time concerning the name of Southend East station which many people felt was no longer appropriate. We eventually came up with a name which suited local requirements while not requiring all timetable publicity in the country to be changed.

"The fact that the community have helped in choosing the way the station should be designated will promote greater ownership of the station within the community, for whom services provided by c2c, currently the best Train Operator in the southeast with 93% of trains all day running on time, are very important.
