A full train service via Rainham is now back in operation following work undertaken by local operator c2c Railway as part of a wider scheme to upgrade the station.
The significant project, which began in July, included renewing substantial lengths of the station’s platforms which had been in place for more than 50 years and installing new flooring in the waiting shelter on platform one.
The station’s footbridge will undergo strengthening in the coming weeks and will be temporarily closed to customers. This work aims to extend the station’s lifespan and enhance future customer experience.
Donna Thorpe, c2c Interim Asset and Property Director, said:
“The re-decking of Rainham’s two platforms will last for decades to come and we would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all our customers for bearing with us while journeys were interrupted to accommodate the works. Special appreciation goes to residents for their patience as there was a significant construction team presence onsite.
“These improvements are intended to support the station’s continued operation and enhance the customer experience in the years ahead.”
During the improvement works, a limited timetable operated with rail replacement buses between Rainham, Purfleet, and Dagenham Dock. Extra staff were also available onsite during this period to assist customers.
A normal timetable resumed from Sunday, 24 August and the station toilets and coffee shop will be back in operation ready for start of service week commencing Monday, 1 September.
