As part of Railway 200 celebrations taking place across the country to mark 200 years of the railway in Britain, we are holding a free board game day for customers at our London terminus, Fenchurch Street station.

Taking place on Saturday 27th September, the event also marks the 50th anniversary of the 1975 British Monopoly Championships being held at the station.

Not only named as one of the stations on the classic Monopoly board, our iconic Fenchurch Street station once hosted the British Monopoly Championships. On the 22 September 1975, over 240 Monopoly players arrived at Fenchurch Street station platforms 3 and 4 to compete for the British title and a chance to play against the world’s best Monopoly players in New York. Watch the Newsround footage from 1975 of the championships at Fenchurch Street station on the BBC Archive Facebook page.

To celebrate the anniversary, we’ve teamed up with Southend’s Board Game Hut for a whole day of board games fun, Saturday 27 September 10:00-17:00 on the main concourse at Fenchurch Street station.
We’ll have the below games for people to play and feel free to bring your own:

Ticket to Ride: London
Splendor
Traintopia
Colt Express
and many more…
