Local rail operator Trenitalia c2c is partnering with Estuary Festival to present ‘Who Am I?,’ a touring installation by artist Damilola Odusote, at Tilbury Town station on 23 and 24 June 2025.

Odusote, who spent his early years in Tilbury as a foster child, drew on his personal experience to ask: ‘When you only have 10p in your pocket during a time of crisis, who would you call? And who would call you back?’

By hosting Who Am I?, c2c is proud to help bring accessible art to everyday public spaces. The work turns a busy railway hub into a site for reflection, curiosity and connection.

Rob Mullen, Managing Director at c2c, said:

“We’re delighted to support Estuary 2025 by hosting ‘Who Am I?’ at Tilbury Town station. To have someone who grew up in our local community be able to have such an impact is incredible to see.

“This thoughtful and personal piece speaks to Tilbury’s rich and diverse community, and we’re proud to help share it with our passengers and local communities.”

Thea Behrman, Artistic Director and CEO of Estuary Festival, said:

“Stations are places of passage and change. With c2c’s support, bringing ‘Who Am I?’ to Tilbury Town gives us the opportunity to meet people in their everyday journeys and invite them to engage with the stories that shape this unique place.”

This large-scale artwork, titled ‘Call me Back’ – a reimagined 1990s BT phone box – poses questions about identity, memory and belonging. Positioned at the entrance of Tilbury Town Station, the installation resonates with the town’s legacy as a place of arrival and departure for people from around the world.

The installation features QR codes that link to audio recordings collected from local schools and residents, creating an intimate and layered portrait of the town’s shared history.

The artwork is on-tour around the region, and it will also be popping up in other parts of c2c’s local communities, including:

  • Saturday 21 June: Canvey Island seafront, Castle Point, South Essex
  • Sunday 22 June: Grays High Street, Thurrock, South Essex
  • Friday 27 June: Canvey Island seafront, Castle Point, South Essex
  • Sunday 29 June: Wat Tyler Country Park, Basildon, South Essex
