To keep the price of traditional tickets and pay as you go with contactless as similar as possible, you will either be charged a peak or off-peak fare on journeys where pay as you go with contactless is available. There will no longer be Super Off-Peak tickets available on these routes, however the Off-Peak fare will have been reduced to reflect this removal. Evening peak times are also being introduced on some routes.
If you buy a traditional ticket for a journey where pay as you go with contactless is available:
- Morning peak times apply 04:29 to 09:30, Monday to Friday.
- Evening peak times apply 16:00 to 19:00, Monday to Friday, if you are travelling from or via a London station.
For journeys where pay as you go with contactless is available outside London, please check evening peak times with the train company you’re travelling with.
Please note, your ticket needs to be valid for every train you’re getting. It may be cheaper to buy 2 Single tickets or use pay as you go with contactless rather than buying a Return ticket, on journeys where contactless pay as you go is available. Pay as you go with contactless may also be cheaper than buying tickets if you’re travelling before 06:30.
