c2c Honours service personnel and Veterans on Remembrance Sunday
National Express train operator c2c will be offering free travel for all veterans and service personnel on Remembrance Sunday, as well as adding capacity to help passengers travelling for the National Service of Remembrance.
Ten different services will be doubled in length to eight carriages on Sunday, providing over 2,800 extra seats in total. They will be focused on morning services into London and early afternoon services back to Essex, helping ensure there are enough seats for additional passengers wanting to travel to and from the Cenotaph.
Both military personnel and veterans will also be welcome to a free cup of tea or coffee courtesy of c2c when they pass through Fenchurch Street station on the morning of Remembrance Sunday.
On both days c2c will also be displaying the Roll of Honour, commemorating local railwaymen killed during World War One, on the customer information screens at Fenchurch Street station. The Roll of Honour is also published permanently on the c2c website atwww.c2c-online.co.uk/about-us/c2c-history/war-memorial. It includes links to the personal page of each railwayman on the Royal British Legion’s Every Man Remembered website.
The train operator will also be announcing the two minutes silence at 11:00am on both Remembrance Sunday and 11 November and it will be honoured at every station throughout the c2c route.
c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said: “This is our own special way of paying our respects to current service personnel, veterans, and all the local railway staff who fell.”
Last week c2c also provided British Legion poppy collectors with free travel on the route to support London Poppy Day on Thursday 29 October.
