On Thursday 9 April, rail operator c2c Railway and GTS (Elizabeth Line) took part in a charity football match, where over £1,000 was raised for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Macmillan was selected as the charity partner for the match by c2c and GTS, with the proceeds going to support individuals affected by cancer.

The charity football match was held at Barking FC, which generously donated its Mayesbrook Park ground so all funds raised by c2c and GTS went directly to the charity.

Following a hard-fought 90-minute battle, c2c won the game 3-2 with c2c’s Head of Data Strategy, Anthony Tyler-Howell, scoring late on to secure the victory.

c2c Head of Revenue Protection and Security – and c2c Football Team Manager – Iain Palmer, said:

“First, I’d like to thank Barking FC for donating their pitch to us for the game – allowing us to send every penny raised directly to Macmillan. Being able to fundraise for such an amazing cause in our local community was an amazing experience and I am delighted that we could raise so much money.

“Barking is one of the incredible communities that we serve, and Barking FC sits between us and GTS’s Elizabeth Line, so we were delighted to be able to come together for such a great cause.”

Kavita Harish-Parmar, GTS Performance Analysis Manager, said:

“Being able to come together with c2c to raise such a fantastic amount of money was amazing and I’d like to thank everybody who donated to the fantastic cause. I’d also like to extend our thanks to Barking FC for giving us their ground to play the game.”

c2c will hold its annual Kick4Kindness football tournament at Roots Hall – home of Southend United – on 21 May, with the proceeds from that being donated to Basildon Mind, SECE (South East and Central Essex) Mind and Basildon & Thurrock and Southend Samaritans.
