On Friday 26 September, colleagues from local rail operator c2c Railway hosted a coffee and cake fundraising morning at Leigh-on-Sea station, raising over £1,200 for Macmillan cancer support.

The event was organised by c2c Customer Delivery Manager, Louise Williams, who lost her husband John Williams in 2022 – a beloved colleague that worked for c2c for over 40 years before retiring in 2020 – to the disease.

Louise Williams, c2c Customer Delivery Manager, said:

“My husband, who was also a c2c employee for over 40 years, sadly passed away in 2022 from lung cancer. Throughout his treatment the Macmillan nurses provided incredible comfort and support to both of us.

“The team at Southend Hospital were always available for a chat and the helpline offered reassurance whenever we needed it. Alongside our family and friends, they were a vital part of our support network.”

c2c colleagues from across the business baked and donated cakes for the event, which were sold to customers from 07:00 – 10:00, all in aid of raising money for the incredible work Macmillan does.

c2c’s Head of Stations, Joe Hendry, said:

“It is occasions such as this that really show the incredible spirit that we have here at c2c. Louise’s event is such an amazing way of remembering John, as well as bringing together all of us at c2c and the people of our local communities that have lost friends and loved ones to that awful disease.”

To make the event even more impactful, a corner of the table was dedicated to colleague’s photos of loved ones affected by cancer, as a special way to remember them together.
