Storm Ciarán is expected to cause significant disruption to train services across the south-east of England on Thursday 2 November, with a risk of disruption late evening on Wednesday 1 November through until the morning of Friday 3 November.
Stormy weather can severely impact the railway, with journey delays and cancellations.
- High winds can mean trains have to run at slower speeds than usual to operate safely.
- Strong winds can bring down trees and other debris that block tracks and damage power lines.
- Heavy rainfall can cause flooding that results in tracks being underwater and embankments being damaged.
- Flooding can affect points and electrical systems.
