Passengers urged to plan ahead with Storm Ciarán set to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall

Storm Ciarán is expected to cause significant disruption to train services across the south-east of England on Thursday 2 November, with a risk of disruption late evening on Wednesday 1 November through until the morning of Friday 3 November.

Stormy weather can severely impact the railway, with journey delays and cancellations.

• High winds can mean trains have to run at slower speeds than usual to operate safely.
• Strong winds can bring down trees and other debris that block tracks and damage power lines.
• Heavy rainfall can cause flooding that results in tracks being underwater and embankments being damaged.
• Flooding can affect points and electrical systems.

Check before you travel:

Please check your whole journey before you travel on Wednesday 1, Thursday 2 and Friday 3 November as trains may be altered in advance or at short notice. The National Rail Enquiries real-time Journey Planner has been updated with some advance alterations but you are advised to check your whole journey before you travel on the day.

Ticket validity and refunds:

If your ticket is dated for Thursday 2 November, you will be able to use it for travel today (Wednesday 1 November), or Friday 3 November instead. This applies to Anytime, Off-Peak and Advance tickets.

Refunds: If you choose not to make your journey because of Storm Ciaran and have purchased a single or return ticket (including Advance tickets) dated for travel on Thursday 2 Nov, you have the option to cancel your journey and get a full fee free refund.
