c2c has today confirmed that the third phase of works to renew and extend sections of the platforms at Limehouse station will start in October.
The third phase of this important project – which follows the earlier phases delivered in June, July and August – will run from Saturday 17 October to Monday 2 November*, during which the London‑bound platform (Platform 1) will remain closed throughout. Customers travelling from Essex to London during this period should plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journeys.
New GRP decking and substructure now completed on several sections of the platform
*Trains will not stop at Platform 1 at Limehouse station between 20:45 on Saturday 17 October and 04:00 on Monday 2 November.
Commenting, c2c’s Asset & Property Director, Donna Thorpe (pic), said:
“Working alongside our partners at Aureos, Phases 1 and 2 were successfully completed earlier this summer.
“From 17 October, we will return to Platform 1 to continue replacing the existing timber decking with a modern Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) composite system, improving the station’s overall durability and resilience.
“Moving forward and once this phase is complete, we will begin work extend the platform (by approximately 28 metres), increasing capacity and creating a safer, more comfortable waiting environment for customers, alongside upgraded platform lighting.
“We recognise the inconvenience these phased closures have caused, and may continue to cause, and we would like to thank customers once again for their patience and understanding while these essential improvements are delivered.”
During this third phase of works, customers who would usually use the London‑bound Platform 1 at Limehouse station are being advised that there will be no station entrance or exit access for London‑bound services, and no interchange with the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) for trains arriving from Essex.
Customers starting their journey from Limehouse and travelling towards London can either:
Take an Essex‑bound train to West Ham and connect with c2c services, or use TfL services to Tower Hill or connect with c2c services at West Ham station.
Customers wishing to interchange with the DLR at Limehouse should change at West Ham for TfL services. Customers can also use Tower Gateway or Bank stations to connect with the DLR but should note that additional charges may apply if using these stations to start or complete journeys while Platform 1 at Limehouse is closed.
