Following the recent record-breaking hot weather and sustained low rainfall, the clay beneath long stretches of railway in Essex has dried out and shrunk, causing some issues with track quality.
Safety is, and will always remain, the railway industry’s highest priority. To keep everyone moving safely and reliably, short-notice speed restrictions have been put in place along the route from Monday 7 September.
Disruption is expected as these speed restrictions may cause short-notice delays and cancellations. We strongly recommend avoiding the peaks if you can, keeping your plans flexible, and checking before you travel. Our teams have been working as quickly as possible on the train plans, journey planners will be updated with the correct train times for next week over the weekend.
c2c train tickets will be accepted at no extra cost on Greater Anglia services between Southend Victoria and London Liverpool Street.
To help minimise disruption, some services Monday 7th to Friday 11th will be cancelled. To help with capacity we are strengthening trains as much as possible where possible. Stations will be busy and crowd control may be in place in some locations.
