05 December 2025

To mark this year’s International Volunteers Day (5 December), c2c has teamed up with Southend United Football Club and the Southend Echo newspaper to recognise and reward the unsung heroes in our local communities who regularly volunteer their services to help and support the needs of others.

International Volunteer Day (IVD) is a global observance established in 1985 to celebrate the power of volunteerism.

As a thank you for their efforts and ongoing commitment to important local causes, five nominated heroes will each receive four complimentary match tickets, courtesy of c2c, for Southend United’s first home match of 2026 which is against Truro City on 3 January.

c2c’s Managing Director, Rob Mullen, said:

“c2c is delighted to be partnering with Southend United and the Southend Echo once again to give five local heroes the opportunity to enjoy Southend United’s first home match of 2026 with their friends and family.

“Through our work across the c2c network and with our charity and community partners, we recognise that there are many people within the local areas we serve who regularly volunteer, giving their time to organise and support important local events and initiatives.

“Please help us to say thank you to them by taking the time to nominate a deserving local volunteering hero who will receive a warm welcome at Roots Hall from c2c.”

Rylee Doe, Southend United’s Commercial & Marketing Manager, added:

“Our club has always been rooted in its community, and this campaign is a chance to celebrate the people who bring that community to life.

“South Essex is full of volunteers who make a real difference every day, and they deserve to be recognised.

“We’re proud to join c2c in honouring those local heroes who go above and beyond”

If you would like to nominate a local hero, then please email chris.phillips@newsquest.co.uk with details of their work and impact in the local community by 12 noon on Friday 19 December.

Winners will be contacted by email and will also have their e-tickets sent to them.
