What you’ll do:

An opportunity has arisen for a decisive, analytical minded individual to join our Resourcing team. The purpose of a Rostering Assistant is to ensure the delivery of efficient pre planned and real time rosters to Retail and Train crew ensuring all personnel are efficiently and effectively rostered to meet our train service commitments and improve the customer experience.

Key responsibilities inc:

  • Utilising electronic systems (e.g. TRACSIS) to produce rosters on time and within budget requirements
  • Compile and publish weekly / daily rosters to cover all required instances of work covering sickness, annual leave, training, briefing and special arrangements
  • Make roster arrangements for safety critical competence expiries, training plans and training courses
  • Compile and control staff annual leave records
  • Build and maintain collaborative and professional relationships with frontline staff, union reps, managers and stakeholders to crosscheck roster data
  • Making calculations using mental calculations using time differences, distance/speed/time relationships 

What is takes:

The role requires an articulate individual with the ability to communicate and build relationships at all levels internally, and with external suppliers and stakeholders.

  • An understanding and delivery of rostering principles (Driver and /or Station staff) in a Railway environment is desirable
  • Knowledge of Driver and/or Station staff conditions and terms of service within a railway environment is desirable
  • General education to GCSE, or O level standards, including English and Mathematics
  • Computer literacy is essential – Google, Word, Excel
  • Understanding of rostering systems – TRACSIS preferable
  • Good knowledge of c2c railway geography
  • Great at time management and balancing multiple streams of work in a pressurised environment.
  • Demonstrable ability in data entry and interpretation
  • Effective analytical skills with a eye for detail
  • Strong communications skills focusing on balancing listening and talking, speaking and writing clearly and accurately, influencing others, keeping others informed
  • Confident decision maker, using sound judgment to make informed decisions, creates win-win outcomes by developing relationships (both internal and external)
  • Proactive self-starter, with ability to work with limited supervision
  • Able to work to strict procedures
