Joy Gregory (b. 1959, UK), winner of the eighth annual Freelands Award, is one of the UK’s most innovative and significant artists working with photography today.

This landmark exhibition spans four decades and brings together over 250 works across photography, film, installation and textiles exemplifying a practice that is quietly radical, conceptually rigorous and technically innovative.

Her use of 19th century photographic processes such as cyanotypes, reflect a fascination with the material and aesthetic possibilities of the medium; while her subject matter explores cultural memory, beauty ideals, lost languages and diasporic identity to uncover vital, often untold, histories.
