Tate Modern – Takis
Exhibition Dates: 3 July – 27 October 2019
Tate Modern will stage the first substantial exhibition in Britain since the 1960s of the work of the Greek artist Takis. Over a 70-year career spent in Athens, Paris, London and New York, Takis has created some of the most powerful, innovative – as well as playful – works of 20th-century art. In them, he has reinvented the formats of painting, sculpture and music in relation to energy.
At Tate Modern, visitors will encounter forests of Signal sculptures, twinkling displays of salvaged aircraft dials, and magnetic objects inspired by radar. The thunderous sounds of Takis’s Musicales, his slow-moving Silver Musical Sphere and his Gong will complete the journey.
