vista and onboard WiFi FAQs

What is vista?

vista is our complimentary onboard entertainment service. It’s totally free and it won’t use up your c2c WiFi data allowance. You can access vista via your mobile, tablet or laptop by downloading the c2c vista app or using your web browser. To access all of our content including NOW TV and hayu, you will need to use the vista app.

How do I access vista?

1. Install our free vista app before you get onboard. Download the app from Apple App Store or Google Play Store
2. Once onboard, connect to our "c2c Free Train WiFi"
3. To get access to all of our free content use the vista app. Or if you want to view in your browser we have a selection of the app content available at media.c2c-online.co.uk, but for the full range of content you'll need the vista app. 

How do I access onboard WiFi?

1. Once you have boarded the train, open WiFi settings on your device
2. Ensuring your device has WiFi switched on “c2c Free Train WiFi” will appear on your available network list
3. Click on “c2c Free Train WiFi” to connect to it
4. You will be automatically directed to a quick registration page within your web browser, if this doesn’t happen, load your web browser and go to media.c2c-online.co.uk
5. If you are not already registered, register your details – it shouldn’t take more than one minute
6. Once you’ve registered and hit continue, you will be connected and can start using WiFi or vista

How do I access onboard entertainment without the vista app installed?

If you are already onboard the train but haven’t downloaded the vista app yet, don’t worry. You can access vista through your browser at media.c2c-online.co.uk and watch some of the content available. Before your next journey, install the free vista app to get access to all of our content, including Now TV.

Why can’t I download the vista app onboard?

To make sure everyone can enjoy a free WiFi connection onboard, we need to have data limits in place for all users. Downloading apps can use up a lot of data, so we have restricted access while onboard and using the c2c Free Train WiFi. You can use our "c2c Free Station WiFi" to download the app from Google Play or Apple App Store – as data limits are a lot higher at our stations.

Why can’t I see all the content on the web version of vista?

Some media and content providers, such as NOW TV require a certain level of security for streaming content. An app provides an additional level of security, helping protect copyright.

Are you restricting data usage or access to some websites – e.g. Netflix or BBC iPlayer?

Yes. To make sure everyone can enjoy a free WiFi connection onboard, we limit connection speed and access to some video and music streaming sites. But you can still access vista at any time while onboard, as content on vista does not use up your c2c WiFi data allowance.

In addition, we also block content that we believe is not suitable over a public network. If you think we have wrongly blocked a website, please let us know here

Why is the internet slow?

To make sure everyone can enjoy a free WiFi connection onboard, we need to have data limits in place for all users. Once you have reached your data limit, your internet speed will start to slow down. Data limits are reset overnight, every night.

Our free WiFi uses several 3G and 4G signals combined with wireless station connections, so the quality of the internet connection will vary depending on where you are along our route and how many people are using the free WiFi at any one time. If you lose your connection, we’re probably just passing through an area with weak signal. If this happens, there’s no need to reconnect - you’ll be connected again automatically once the signal improves.

But you can still access vista at any time while onboard, as content on vista does not use up your c2c WiFi data allowance.

Why have I reached my data limit?

To make sure everyone can enjoy a free WiFi connection onboard, we need to have data limits in place for all users. Data limits are reset overnight, every night. We continuously monitor data usage to provide our customers the best WiFi experience possible. This is why we provide vista, our complimentary onboard entertainment service. All customers can access vista and watch hours of free entertainment without using their c2c data allowance.

What content is available on vista?

We’ve made some great content available on vista, including some of the best of TV from NOW TV, Sky News, Sky Sports, Sky Weather, Bloomberg News, Soccer AM, Extreme Sports from Red Bull TV and natural history documentaries.

You can also read from a selection of Digital Magazines: Cosmopolitan, Top Gear, Marie Claire, Men’s Health, Time Out London, Four Four Two, Stylist, Shortlist, Total Film and Lonely Planet Traveller.

How often will the content change?

We’re keeping track of what our passengers most enjoy watching and plan to update the content regularly

What will you do with my name and email address?

You’ll need to enter your name and email address to log onto our WiFi or access free content through vista, but it’s up to you whether you’d like to receive news and offers from c2c. If you’d rather not receive marketing materials from us, just check the box – you’ll still be able to use the WiFi and access free content. Take a look at our Privacy Policy to find out more.

The WiFi isn’t working. Will you refund my ticket?

We’re keeping our passengers connected by offering onboard WiFi wherever we can along our routes. Due to the nature of the 3G and 4G mobile connections, speeds and connectivity will vary depending on where we are and how many people are online. As we’ve made our WiFi and vista content free for all passengers, it’s not a service that’s included in our refund policy.

How secure is the network?

Although the network is an open network, we’ve implemented lots of safeguards, so it shouldn’t be possible for other users to get unauthorised access to your device. However we recommend that to keep your data safe, always make sure you’re connected to the right network and keep your firewall and anti-virus software up to date.

How does WiFi work onboard?

We combine 3G and 4G mobile network coverage with station wireless internet connections to keep you connected throughout your journey.
Each user is limited to using 50MB of 3G and 4G mobile network data each day. However, whenever a train is at a station, our trains connect to the station WiFi. Only when the train pulls away from the station or is in between stations will the train use 3G and 4G. Therefore our customers can typically expect to experience more than 25MB of data during their journey.
