45,000 Extra c2c Seats to help Southend fans get to Wembley
National Express train operator c2c is adding more than 45,000 seats to its trains this Saturday to help Southend United fans get to and from Wembley for the League Two play-off final.
The extra seats – equivalent to half of the capacity of Wembley stadium – will be created by doubling the length of all c2c trains on Saturday to eight carriages. This provides nearly 300 extra seats on every train.
c2c will also have spare trains on standby for Saturday evening, which will be ready to run additional services at short notice when the majority of fans return through Fenchurch Street station.
c2c Delivery Director Kevin Frazer said: “We know that thousands of local fans will be heading to Wembley, so we’re putting on longer trains to help them get to and from the big game. We also have spare trains on standby for the evening so we can add more capacity when it is most needed. This gives us extra flexibility to help fans get home in case the game goes to extra time or even penalties.”
A special train called “Southend United” will be part of the service on Saturday, which was re-named when the club successfully reached Wembley for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final two seasons ago.
Southend fans travelling with c2c on Saturday will have the option of transferring onto the Metropolitan line at Aldgate from Fenchurch Street, or directly onto the Jubilee line at West Ham.
