Sir Geoff Hurst Helps c2c Celebrate Punctuality Hat-Trick
England football legend Sir Geoff Hurst today joined staff from c2c as they celebrated their own unique hat-trick, by marking three successive years at the top of the UK’s rail punctuality league table.
c2c has been the UK’s No1 train operator for annual punctuality since December 2011, and in the past year 96.4% of c2c trains arrived on time. In the four weeks up to 6 December alone, 97.7% of c2c trains were on time – compared to the national average of 85.7%.
Sir Geoff joined c2c’s own team of hat-trick heroes at Fenchurch Street station, where he also recorded a tannoy announcement for c2c passengers, before heading to West Ham station – a name synonymous with his football career.
Sir Geoff Hurst said: “Everyone remembers my hat-trick, but I’m here today to say well done to c2c for setting their own unique hat-trick. I know how important it is to be the very best, whatever your business, so c2c can be proud of everything they achieved.”
c2c Managing Director Julian Drury said: “We’re so thrilled that the legendary Sir Geoff has joined us on such a special day for c2c. Achieving our punctuality hat-trick has been a real team effort. Our challenge now is to maintain our form for as long as possible, and we are setting ourselves tougher targets in future. We want to challenge ourselves to deliver the best possible service for our passengers.”
Sir Geoff Hurst played 499 times for West Ham United over 13 years, scoring 248 goals, as well as notable spells at Stoke City and as manager of Chelsea. He won 49 caps for England and scored 24 goals, including his famous and unparalleled feat of scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup final, in 1966.
The Public Performance Measure, which is the rail industry’s official measure of punctuality, is released by Network Rail.
