Thurrock passengers get new c2c Smartcard benefits
c2c passengers in Thurrock can now beat the ticket office queues thanks to an upgrade to the c2c Smartcard system at key stations.
Passengers at Grays, Chafford Hundred, Ockendon and Purfleet can now buy their train tickets online and collect them just by tapping their card at the gates on their way through, instead of queuing for a ticket machine or at the ticket office.
This service is now available at every station in Thurrock for the first time, and the number of passengers switching from traditional paper tickets to the c2c Smartcard is expected to soar as a result.
Passengers can also now choose to collect their tickets from the gates at some of c2c’s busiest London stations including Fenchurch Street, Limehouse and Barking. This allows Essex-based passengers to buy a ticket while at work and collect it on the way home, ready to use the following day.
c2c passengers enjoy extra benefits if they buy their ticket on a c2c Smartcard, including c2c’s flagship automatic compensation if their journey is delayed for as little as two minutes.
c2c Commercial Director Clare McCaffrey said: “The c2c Smartcard saves you time as it ensures you never need to queue for a ticket again. We’ve upgraded our technology to ensure this simple click-and-collect approach is now available at all our stations, and this will make life easier for thousands of our regular passengers if they ditch their paper tickets and switch to the c2c Smartcard.”
