New platform boards help c2c customers to find their seat

22 November 2017

The new Customer Information Screens display a digital graphic of each train before it arrives, showing how full each individual carriage on that service normally is. This provides passengers with more information to decide where they want to board the train, and therefore where best to wait on the platform.

c2c Managing Director Julian Drury, said: “We know how frustrating it is for our customers if they are standing in a busy carriage, when just yards behind them on exactly the same train there are free seats which aren’t being used. We’re investing in these new information boards as part of our £40m improvement package for customers and these will give our customers more information to make an informed choice about where best to board their chosen train.”

The data is provided using loadweigh technology installed on c2c’s trains, which weighs each carriage at each stop to calculate how many people are onboard. Each week the information displayed will be updated with the average figures from the previous week, to help ensure the projections are up-to-date.

The upgraded electronic boards also now include live information on the train’s likely arrival time at each stop, so passengers know what time their service is predicted to arrive if it has been delayed.

c2c’s £40m improvement package for customers also includes the new trains which entered service earlier this year, and new free onboard WiFi.
