Shoeburyness

Take the train right to the very end of the c2c line and you'll discover the delightful seaside town of Shoeburyness.

Located at the mouth of the River Thames, it's a smaller, quieter alternative to neighbouring Southend-on-Sea, and is famed for its two Blue Flag award-winning beaches.

Just a short walk from the station is the beautiful sand and pebble East Beach, which runs for a quarter of a mile. So come and pick your spot on its golden sands, ideal for family games or just catching some rays, or make a splash in its clean inviting waters, perfect for swimming and watersports.

There's also a large attractive grassy area that's suitable for informal sports, and from Rampart Terrrace, running to the west of the beach, you'll enjoy stunning views of the Thames Estuary.

But that's not forgetting Shoebury Common Beach. Here you'll find plenty of beach hut facilities, both on the promenade and on the sands, plus Uncle Tom's Cabin, serving up all the traditional seaside refreshments.

A handy landmark is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution watch tower at the eastern end of the beach, which keeps a lookout over the sands and mudflats.
