Purchasing your ticket

At c2c we have developed a number of different mechanisms for purchasing your ticket to make it as easy as possible for you to travel with us.

At the ticket office

All our ticket office staff have been trained to the highest level to ensure that they offer you the cheapest and most convenient ticket type for your travel requirements. Please approach our helpful staff and they will be happy to assist you in any way.

Our ticket office opening times are clearly displayed at each station with our aim being to ensure that customers are served within five minutes at peak times and three minutes at other times.

Our ticket offices accept payment in cash, by cheque (supported by a valid cheque guarantee card), MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club International, Maestro (formerly Switch) or Delta cards and by Rail Travel Vouchers.

Ticket Machines

The vast majority of our stations have self-service ticket machines designed to offer a convenient and alternative method of payment at busier times to our most popular destinations.

They accept 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p, £1 and £2 coins as well as £5 and £10 notes. Some machines will also accept £20 notes and credit/debit cards.

To reduce queue times and make it quicker and easier to obtain a ticket, we will be investing in a number of state-of-the-art automatic self service ticket machines this Autumn that will deliver the following key benefits:

  • Non motorised card readers meaning debit/credit cards will no longer get stuck in the machines

  • The ability to book your ticket in advance online and collect from the machine at the time of your departure

  • Remote monitoring from our retail control centre at Westcliff will allow us to determine if any machines are not working and get them back into service quicker

  • All machines will be DDA compliant, ensuring usability for all our customers

We promise to keep you up-to-date of our progress.

By Telephone

You can buy or renew season tickets or other tickets for travel on c2c or elsewhere on the National Rail network by telephone, using a cheque or one of the cards mentioned above. Simply dial 08457 44 44 22.

Your ticket will be sent to you by first class post, but please allow five working days from the date of ordering for delivery.

Online

You can purchase season tickets and tickets in advance online through our partners The Trainline.

Please register your details if online purchasing interests you and remember to allow up to 4 working days for ticket delivery.

Penalty Fares

If you cannot present a valid ticket when requested, you will be liable to pay a penalty fare of £20 or twice the standard single fare to the next station at which the train stops, whichever is the greater. These penalty fares are charged by c2c in order to deter the small minority who seek to avoid paying their fare.

Fare-dodging is theft. It is unfair to fare-paying customers as well as to the train company. We at c2c are determined to stamp out this crime to ensure your safety and security and to generate funds for some of our investment schemes.
