Tilbury Town is famous for its docks and for the ferry to Gravesend. It was once an important military hub and the Tilbury Fort, though it’s no longer in use, can still be seen. It’s now owned by English Heritage and is open on Wednesday through to Sundays. At Tilbury Docks you can catch the ferry to Gravesend in Kent and have lunch in one of the many restaurants and pubs the Thames.
DRINKS & DINING
The World’s End Pub is a historic establishment that offers a typical pub menu. Across the river in Gravesend there is an array of pubs and restaurants. Why not try out the Riva – a Mediterranean restaurant on an Iron Pier or The Rum Puncheon – a pub that specialises in craft beer.
Lakeside Shopping Centre is only a short bus ride away, while on the other side of the Thames in Gravesend is the Imperial Shopping Centre, Thamesgate and the St Georges Centre. The Gravesend Heritage Quarter has a number of independent stores.
Take the Tilbury Ferry to Gravesend and enjoy a lively night out in one of the many bars and clubs. If you fancy a cocktail or two head to The Kent Cocktail Bar & Lounge.
