The level crossing at Dagenham Dock was closed permanently on October 7 in order to improve the running of trains on the neighbouring Channel Tunnel Rail Link (CTRL).
The crossing provided the only level access for disabled customers wishing to change between platforms one and two, and will be replaced by a lift, which will provide access to the platforms via the existing footbridge, which spans both our lines and those of CRTL at present. The lift is being paid for by CTRL owners and Union Railways.
Work began on the day the crossing was closed, and is estimated to be complete by March 2007. During the work, passengers will not be able to leave from platform one or gain access to platform two. To inform passengers of the changes, posters are displayed at stations.
Taxis to and from alternate destinations such as Rainham and Barking will be provided for disabled customers, and will be paid for by Union Railways. The taxi is free of charge to the customer.
