c2c Rail (part of the National Express Group) which according to the latest Public Performance report from London TravelWatch has maintained its position as top of the south east punctuality league with 94.9% of its trains running on time, not only offers its customers the most punctual service in the south east but also the cheapest fares. Indeed respected authority on rail fares Barry Doe, writing in a recent edition of Rail magazine says that c2c is remarkable in the south east in that many of its fares are less in real terms than they were in 1995, with the cost in real terms, of a season ticket having reduced by 14%.
Mile for mile season tickets to destinations on c2c, which runs trains straight into the City and which is the closest mainline railway to Canary Wharf, are cheaper than anywhere else in the London area. The annual season ticket from Southend Central to Fenchurch Street costs between £280 and £744 less than for an equivalent journey on another route while a single ticket from Basildon to Fenchurch Street costs between £1.20 and £3 less.
c2c, operating a fleet of modern air-conditioned trains and achieving an annual all day punctuality of over 94% (currently the highest in the country), with even higher punctuality during the morning and evening peak periods, has achieved a customer satisfaction level of 89%, again one of the highest in the country.
With the cheapest fares offered by the most punctual railway, c2c also provides its customers with what is probably the most convenient connections to the increasingly important financial centres in Docklands. Its station at West Ham is only eight minutes away from Canary Wharf by the new Jubilee Line and its Limehouse station is just five minutes from Canary Wharf by Docklands Light Railway. TfL OYSTER pay as you go will be accepted at all c2c's London stations by the autumn, and will be rolled out into Thurrock during 2008.
Stations and trains provide high levels of security to customers day and night. with CCTV on all stations and many of the trains. Twenty two security staff patrol our stations and trains each evening.
Mark Hopwood, Managing Director of c2c, said Our research shows commuting by c2c is a real no-brainer! Our stations serve some of the most economically priced housing in the southeast, our punctuality is second to none and outperforms all other London rail companies, we have the lowest level of overcrowding on our trains and, to cap it all, our fares are the cheapest per mile anywhere around London."
Furthermore, the Evening Standard newspaper, issued on August 8, 2006 named Leigh-On-Sea the best place to live within the South-East of England. As well as the high quality of life, a significant factor in this decision was the lower price of housing in the South Essex towns and a high quality of education facilities. Commuting to London by c2c really is the easy choice!
