New automatic doors have recently been added to the entrance of Benfleet station ticket office which are the latest in a long line of improvements, totaling £475,000, aimed at enhancing the facilities and improving access to the station.

This £8,500 project follows two recent development projects which have improved facilities and made access for customers with special needs and disabilities easier.

In May last year, Castle Point MP Bob Spink was joined by The Mayor of Castle Point, Cllr Beverley Egan to celebrate completion of the £350k improvement project for the station which included ticket office refurbishment, enhanced toilet facilities and cycle security upgrade. In September, the dignitaries returned to unveil the new £115,000 ramp which allows customers with wheelchairs and special needs step free access to the east bound platform.

Julian Drury, Managing Director for c2c said:

“We’re delighted with the latest improvements to Benfleet station. We’re committed to making travel simpler for our customers and the upgrade of facilities over the last year at Benfleet is an excellent example of that.”

Automatic doors have also been installed at Leigh on Sea, Laindon and Rainham as part of a combined c2c and Dft funded project to improve access for all.
