Record Breaking Rail Performances
Both companies have become the first in the country to achieve a train service punctuality score of 96% for the 12 month period ending 14 November 2009.
This is the first time that a Moving Annual Average of 96% for Public Performance Measure punctuality has been achieved in the rail industry*. c2c’s Managing Director Julian Drury and Bart Schmeink, Managing Director for Merseyrail will be joined by Andrew Munden, Network Rail’s Route Director for a photocall to mark the achievement, which sees train operators at either end of the country and their Network Rail partners delivering record-breaking performance.
Julian Drury, Managing Director of c2c said:“The efforts our team have made, in conjunction with our partners at Network Rail, in focusing on the detail required in providing the best possible and highly punctual train service have really paid off. We will continue to focus all our efforts in maintaining these high standards and in delivering further improvement.”
Bart Schmeink, Merseyrail’s Managing Director said: “This is a major milestone for the rail industry and is a great achievement for everyone involved at Merseyrail, c2c and Network Rail. For us to achieve this level of punctuality especially during a time of year when running to time is extra difficult because of the weather and the autumn leaves falling is excellent news. Now the next challenge is to make sure we keep improving both in terms of performance and our customer service.”
Andrew Munden, Network Rail route director, said:"Network Rail and train operators have worked tirelessly to boost train punctuality and passengers and freight users are seeing the results of that hard work with more on time journeys. To deliver an even better service we have to deliver consistently across the year, so it is especially pleasing that we have just announced the best autumn month’s performance on record.”
