c2c Sprints in to Help Local Running Club

c2c’s Paul Atherfold is celebrating after recently securing funding of £250 from the National Express Employee Charity Panel to be donated to the Yaxley Runners and Joggers – youth section.

The funding will be specifically used to train two new youth coaches, thereby benefiting the young people of the area and encouraging them in their athletic pursuits. 

Paul has been running with the club for a couple of years and decided to assist in setting up a youth section when his sons began to show an interest in the sport. The youth section has been set up for only three short months, but the response has been overwhelming, with a membership which is already over fifty strong. The funding provided by National Express will help the club to grow and to better serve the young athletes they are training.

 “Paul has shown great initiative and dedication in helping to set up the youth section of his local running club. We are pleased to support his efforts by providing funding which will enable two further athletics coaches to be trained for the club.” 

Paul Atherfold began working on the railway in 1990 as a guard at Strawberry Hill depot. He later became a train driver, before moving to the position of Operations Standards Manager at Industry-leading train operator c2c. 

The National Express Charity Panel helps support employees, including those at c2c, in their charitable work. The panel is made up of employees from around the National Express Group, who meet quarterly to decide which good causes they will support. The panel has given awards worth £20,064 to charity throughout 2011.
